In their new works for the exhibition “Gorshkov2”, both artists rethink each other’s works. These works, as the younger Gorshkov puts it, “are like our own, but only better”, are inspired by another of his own methods – “find and improve”. It lies in the transformative power of art, through which the imperfect things we encounter every day undergo a stunning metamorphosis and become what they should be – flawlessly perfect.
Sergey Gorshkov “chops wooden books and portraits of literary heroes, beautiful ladies and flowers of all sorts and sizes; creates wooden dishes and huge still lifes from sausages, fruits and vegetables, bottles of wine and glasses; jewelry, toys and bicycles – and in general, everything that exists in this world!” From this diversity of objective reality, the younger Gorshkov selects archetypal female images, executed in graphics and the most characteristic technique for Sergey Gorshkov – wooden sculpture, carved with a chainsaw or an axe.
