The lace figures created by Nadia Zubareva combine the fragility of women's precious needlework and the versatility of minimalist plastics. If you look closely, you can understand that Zubareva's entire artistic practice is based on outright contradictions: the brutality of the material and the ephemerality of the composition, the vulnerability of structures to external influences and their obvious attraction to monumentality, emphasized figurativeness and sharp abstraction. The sculptures create the illusion of unreliability, like melting ice, and at the same time are solid in their metal frame. At the center of the artist's interests is the image of a person as a kind of special individual who either came here "out of nowhere" or went nowhere and left memories of himself here. The characters in the sculptures resemble wonderful creatures that inhabit forests and natural landscapes in children's imagination. According to the artist, the transparent skin of her "friends" whom she sculpts always reminds her of the ghostly daylight of the northern forest, where pines, cedars and fir trees hum swaying in the wind.
