There is a powerful nature and grotesqueness in these ceremonial portraits. Purebred roosters, looking at us with superiority, are irresistibly handsome. The dominant males depicted in the photographs are comical, like the nobles from the pre-Petrine Parsun period. The unprecedented magnificent snow—white plumage, the foppish disheveled withers, the protruding chest, the arrogantly upturned beak - it is immediately visible: the authorities. Managers of everything.
From the portraits, we are looked at by individuals who are unique in the sum of their individual characteristics and at the same time exemplary and faceless individuals. They appear against a black background, hovering in a solemn void, in the timelessness of an eternally reproducing genetic code. Like Baroque portraits, these pictures should emphasize the endless difference between the elite and the middle class, but they have a trick. They split into two images, like iridescent calendars, into the majestic and the ridiculous.
