Gleb Bogomolov is one of the most sought—after artists of the St. Petersburg underground of the 1970s and 1980s.
The whole essence of Bogomolov's art can be understood in the words of Mikhail German: “In the very depths of his art there is a reminiscence with mosaics of Ravenna, frescoes of medieval Russia, and the Tuscan Renaissance, but this is nothing more than a distant echo. The pain of existence and the enduring significance of art lives in its gloomy blossoms, giving rise to a sense of tragedy receding before the magical appeal of his painting."
The English-language catalog is dedicated to the exhibition of works “The Ark” and “Portraits of Mythical Heroes” by Gleb Bogomolov at the Russian Museum, held in 2004.
